What IS Coaching?

Coaching is an investment in yourself and your future. It’s a transformative experience that can empower you in ways you may have never thought possible. When you partner with a coach, you’ll find that you already have the answers to many of your most important questions about yourself and your life, business, work, and more – your coach will simply help you unlock them.

You might think of coaching like going on a road trip with a supportive passenger riding along with you. You are in control of the car and where it’s going – the same way you’re in control of your life, your destiny, your decisions, your future. As you drive, your coach accompanies you, assisting you on your journey to reach your destination.

When you partner with a coach, you are in the driver’s seat. Your coach provides support for accountability and self-awareness and helps you gain new perspectives. Coaches ask questions not to get an answer they desire, but to encourage you in meaningful exploration that can help you reach a new level of depth and performance.

What Coaching is NOT

Coaching is an investment in yourself and your future. It’s a transformative experience that can empower you in ways you may have never thought possible. When you partner with a coach, you’ll find that you already have the answers to many of your most important questions about yourself and your life, business, work, and more – your coach will simply help you unlock them.

“By contrast, coaching focuses on facilitating individuals or groups to draw upon their own experiences and capabilities to set and reach their own objectives. The coach is the expert in the coaching process, but you are the expert on your life journey.”

Being a heart attack survivor, I am very grateful to my profession and level of awareness as it saved my life. On my road to recovery, it was disappointing to discover that only physical recovery was the focal area. No importance was placed on the trauma of the experience, nor mental recovery. I am therefore also very invested in supporting others to move through the initial trauma of surviving a heart attack or any other life-changing event and become mentally equipped to take back control of their life.

What can you expect from me?

After more than a decade of experience and working with countless individuals and teams, I have thousands of coaching hours and developed a diverse toolbox and use various methodologies which includes understanding how neuroscience impacts your daily interactions and behaviours in life. There is no ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach and I partner with you to focus internally to determine your needs and how to best navigate your external environment towards your desired goals in the most sustainable way.

I believe that navigating life is all about relationships and includes Self as much as others, which can be a complex affair. My passion is to provide a safe space, without bias or agenda, where you can simply stop and take some time for yourself to reflect, express yourself, explore, discover, brainstorm, offload, simplify, recharge, or redirect to find your internal balance and the best conditions towards your success. My role is to support you to:

  • assess your needs with clarity
  • increase self-awareness
  • gain new perspectives
  • discover your hidden strengths and talents
  • identify blind spots and make the invisible visible
  • provide tools that are appropriate and aligned with your development
  • unlock the answers that are invisible to you
  • hold you accountable

What I need from you

  • your full commitment
  • be open and willing
  • intend to be impacted
  • be present and stay in the conversation

VALUE-ADD: HARRISON ASSESSMENTS

Harrison Assessments provides powerful insights to develop individuals and organizations. These analytics are used globally to maximize talent development budgets that target individual needs and save costs.

For individuals this includes role placement, executive coaching, performance development, individual development plans, employee engagement, leadership capabilities, and behavioral competency development.

Harrisons Assessments use a unique 25-minute SmartQuestionnaire to provide a deep dive into the behaviors that make you successful. Paradox technology accurately determines whether your strong behavioral traits are genuine strengths or costly derailers. A crucial consideration most traditional assessments fail to make. Whether the focus lies with leadership or personal development coaching, this essential understanding of behaviors and stress responses can make or break the environment in which you operate. Effective leadership of self and others involves balancing a series of apparently contradictory behaviors that can either help or hinder success. Find out your balances and how you can turn potential derailers into your greatest strengths.

Paradox Graph

The paradox graph flagship report provides a framework to understand your true behavioral strengths, derailers and flip (stress) responses. It explores the dynamic relationships between the two traits of each of the 12 main paradox pairs and focuses on the following:

  • Interpersonal: How you inter-relate to others and self.
  • Achievement: How you get things done independently (do your own work).
  • Leadership: How you get things done through others.

For each above bullet point, you will get an understanding of how you:

  • Initiate: How you get things done/off the ground
  • Motivate: How you motivate yourself and others
  • Implement: How you execute
  • Maintain: Once executed, how you maintain/adjust/alter things long term

Harrison Assessments is also used for measuring return on investment. An assessment can be completed before and after a coaching engagement to measure development. The assessment fast tracks results therefore saving time and costs. When the coaching engagement starts, you already know where the blind spots and derailers are and turn them into growth areas.

The other great attribute for organisation is that teams can be assessed. After the individual assessment, and everyone has received feedback on their individual Harrison reports, a team report can be generated to display team members assessment results plotted against each of the twelve Harrison paradoxes. Each individual’s scores are represented by a letter, enabling a collective result and provides deep insight into individual and team strengths, and how they can benefit the team. The potential team derailers will be highlighted and enables opportunity to define coaching cycle objectives to support team development, mutual understanding and trust.

  • Learn to say delegate, set boundaries and have confidence to engage in uncomfortable conversations.
  • Improve time management.

MANAGEMENT COACHING SKILLS FOR ENGAGEMENT

Management Coaching Skills for Engagement focuses on the core competencies for managers to catalyse and sustain highly engaged teams. Muhammad Dawood: Director Wellness & Performance

In order to support, it is crucially important to be well supported. In this respect, I am profoundly grateful for Ilana’s coaching. Through our sessions I have been able to have deep insights into limiting beliefs and behaviours and have been professionally and compassionately supported by Ilana into creating healthy shifts. As a result of the work engaged with Ilana, I feel much closer to living my life’s purpose and doing so in a kinder and more inspired way toward myself and others. It is an absolute privilege to be coached by Ilana. I recommend her unreservedly.

Caitlin Rolle: Entrepreneur

It has been an absolute honour to be coached by Ilana. She has a patient, warm, open and caring style to her coaching. Through our coaching sessions she helped me gain SO much clarity on things that hold me back. Ilana has helped me manage my businesses, studies and health remarkably. If you are looking for a coach for yourself or company, I highly recommend Ilana.

Chanell Grobler: Head of Operations

I was referred to Ilana by my manager to attend individual coaching sessions and at first was very apprehensive to attend as I did not know what it entails and did not have time in my busy schedule to attend. This was the best life changing decision to work with Ilana. Her professionalism, patience, empathy, and insight in all aspects were phenomenal and can say that the coaching has transformed me from a manager to a leader within my workspace. In my personal life it provided insights how to balance life, work and me. I will recommend Ilana to anyone who wants to transform into a better leader or just become a better version of you.
